The standings look wrong or outdated. What's happening?
Pull to refresh on the Today screen. First Base shows a freshness timestamp ("Updated 2:41 PM") so you always know when data was last fetched. Hot Stove itself can lag real game results by an hour or more — that delay is on their end, not ours.
The playoff odds don't match what I'd expect. Are they correct?
Odds are computed using the real Hot Stove tiebreaker rules — runs allowed, head-to-head, and coin toss for unresolvable ties. They're Monte Carlo projections based on 10,000 simulated completions of the remaining schedule. Unusual results usually mean the tiebreaker scenario is closer than it looks on the raw standings.
How do I find my team's event?
Tap Events → Add Event. An in-app browser opens to the Hot Stove or East Coast site. Navigate to your tournament's or season's standings page — the same page you'd normally visit in a browser. Once First Base recognizes the URL as a valid standings page, a "Found a standings page" bar slides up from the bottom. Tap Pin Event, then pick your team from the list.
What notifications does First Base send?
Three kinds, all per-event and all requiring First Base Plus: (1) Schedule posted — a one-time alert when your event's schedule goes from empty to populated. (2) Field changes — when a game's field or location changes between refreshes. (3) Other team scores — when a team other than yours finishes a game, so you can watch the standings shift in real time. Configure notifications for each event on its detail page (tap an event in the Events tab). System notification permission is also required — the app will prompt if needed.
Do I need a GameChanger account?
No. GameChanger is optional. The app is fully functional with Hot Stove data alone. Connecting GC adds live-ish in-progress scores for provisional odds, but if GC is unavailable the app falls back to Hot Stove gracefully.
How do I cancel First Base Plus?
Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID. Go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone and cancel there. Your Plus access continues until the end of the current billing period.
The app says "page format changed" — what does that mean?
First Base parses Hot Stove's HTML directly. When Hot Stove updates their site layout, the parser may fail to read the new format. The app shows your last-good cached data with its timestamp and a clear warning rather than showing nothing or garbage. Email us when this happens — we'll push a parser fix quickly.
My event ended. Can I still see the final standings?
Yes. When First Base detects an event has completed, it archives the final standings and bracket to your device. Finished events appear in the Events tab under "Past" and load instantly from disk — no network required, even if Hot Stove removes the old page.
